The winter djelleba is Morocco's cold-weather thobe, and the piece we put the most fabric into. Every single one is hooded, cut long and full from heavy cloth, with intricate embroidery running down the placket and a contrast cuff at each sleeve. It is built to go over whatever you are already wearing.
Spelled djelleba, djellaba or jellaba depending on who is writing it, the garment is the same: a loose outer thobe with a hood, worn across Morocco for centuries and still the warmest thing in most wardrobes. Ours are cut from a cotton, polyester and viscose blend that holds its shape and keeps you warm.
Instead of sewn-in pockets there are two open side slits, so you reach straight through to whatever you are wearing underneath. It is how the traditional cut works and it is more practical than it sounds. Some colors feature 2 fully functioning pockets. Check the description of each color to find those with 2 pockets.
Choosing a size
Djellebas run S to 2XL, plus an M/L half size for anyone between 5'7" and 5'9" who wants more room through the body. Every measurement is on our size guide. If you are between sizes, take the larger one, since this is a layering piece.
When to wear it
Winter, obviously, but the djelleba also works for Eid prayer, Jumu'ah and evening gatherings where you want presence without a jacket. Nine colors, from black and brown through to mustard and indigo.
